Press Release: NFDC joins Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) as Registered Member

On 4th March 2021, National Federation of Demolition Contractors achieved registered membership of Safety Schemes in Procurement. (SSIP).

SSIP Registered Membership is open to any third-party Health & Safety assessment schemes, including those run by major contractors or Trade Associations.

NFDC joins a distinguished number of fellow trade associations who have achieved SSIP, including National Association of Scaffolding Contractors (NASC) and IPAF, as well as many recognised and well-regarded independent Health & Safety Assessment Schemes such as CHAS and Achilles.

It is NFDC’s firm belief that offering its members the opportunity for NFDC accreditation underpinned by SSIP brings additional scope and benefit.

NFDC, long-established as the only UK Federation for championing high standards within the demolition industry, commemorates its 80th anniversary this year and its commitment to act in the best interests of demolition contractors remains strong. This transition to SSIP forms part of a wider initiative to further increase the robustness of the NFDC accredited site audit, in addition to providing members – and their clients – with an accreditation that represents industry-wide recognition and choice.

On 1st April 2021, NFDC will fully complete its internal transition to SSIP and its membership of demolition contractors will begin to be audited under the new scheme.

Whilst NFDC members and their clients have become accustomed to NFDC accreditation being synonymous with CHAS, NFDC CEO, Howard Button, is keen to clarify that the move to SSIP brings equal recognition of standards.

“Registered Member schemes benefit from a two-way mutual recognition with other registered member schemes, provided that approvals were carried out in accordance with SSIP Rules and Bylaws. This means that our SSIP Registered Member status entitles NFDC demolition contractors to simplify the process for accreditation through other assessment schemes, including CHAS, via the ‘Deemed to Satisfy’ route.”

Howard Button adds; “Naturally, with any major transition, we expect that there will be questions whilst we all get used to a new system and way of working, however, the team are well prepared to assist our members throughout the process. We are delighted that NFDC has achieved SSIP Registered Membership and on behalf of the Federation and its members I would like to thank the team involved in working to ensure our success.”
