Raising funds for five-year-old Florentina Burton, London & Southern Chairman Duncan Rudall joined forces with his regional Vice Chair, Bradley Harris, last week to undertake a charity skydive. A family friend of Bradley Harris, Florentina was sadly diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, just days before her 4th birthday.
The rare and aggressive childhood cancer has a 50-60% chance of long-term survival, but also carries a high risk of relapse. Their family have been tirelessly fundraising for further treatment which is not available in the UK, to take Florentina to the New York cancer centre to receive the bivalent vaccine. The vaccine is the only paediatric tumour vaccine in existence, which would provide Florentina with the maximum chance of survival in the event of an relapse.
Having already secured £12,523.00 in 2021, Bradley and Duncan continue to support the efforts of Flo’s parents via their Just Giving page. Any additional funds raised will go towards helping other children receive the bivalent vaccine.
Florentina’s mum contacted the NFDC to give us an update: “Florentina is doing really well, she is almost at the end of her frontline treatment. She has one more cycle of immunotherapy left before hopefully having end of treatment scans the week of the 18th July. If all clear, then we should be aiming for New York at the end of August / Start September. Thank you for all the support”.
