April is Stress Awareness Month — and while that might sound like another date on the calendar, we think it’s worth pausing for a moment. Demolition is a trade that’s physically tough, mentally demanding, and — let’s face it — not one where people always talk about how they’re really feeling.
In a male-dominated industry like ours (where over 95% of the workforce is men), it’s still common for men to keep things to themselves. We get it. But silence doesn’t mean stress isn’t there. Long hours, tight deadlines, isolation on the road, running a crew, running a business — pressure comes in different forms. And ignoring it doesn’t make it disappear.
That’s why this month, we’ve brought together our most relevant mental health resources — posters, flyers, articles — and put them all in one place.
Whether you use them for a toolbox talk, pin them in the site office, or just browse them in your own time, they’re there for you.
All the materials are free to download, and if you prefer printed copies, just contact NFDC — we’ll happily post any materials we have out to any member who wants them.

We’re also proud to support the HSE’s “Working Minds” campaign — a brilliant set of interactive tools and guides. If you’re worried about a colleague, want to speak to someone yourself, or want to create space for these conversations with your team, it’s a great place to start.

If you or someone you know needs urgent support, the Lighthouse Charity offers a free, confidential 24/7 helpline for anyone in construction or demolition. Call 0345 605 1956 or visit their site below.

Mental health is one part of the bigger picture. Our wider Wellbeing resources cover everything from physical health, emotional wellbeing, work-life balance
and more.
